1st February 2016: At least 50 suspected Harakat al Shabaab Al Mujahideen militants were arrested in joint security operation by the Somali National Army and AMISOM in Jowhar town which is the capital of Middle Shabelle on Saturday.
The security operation was carried out to ensure the safety of very high ranking delegates that are in town to oversee the establishment of a new state Hiiraan and involved house-to-house sweeps that yielded the arrested militants.
AU and SNA troops have started a campaign to sweep the streets and arrest all al Shabaab militants in an ongoing street-security overhaul in all the major cities and towns in Somalia. Earlier in the week a similar operation was conducted in Mogadishu and its environs and nabbed an unspecified number of al Shabaab militants.
The AU Summit in Addis Ababa has laid fresh strategies in their renewed vow to completely eradicate the al Qaeda affiliates Al Shabaab, and any other terrorist organization seeking to establish itself and or commit violent atrocities in the continent.
