Recently concluded joint meeting between AMISOM Military Operations Coordination Committee (MOCC) and the African Union Police Strategic Support Group (PSSG) for the AU peace support operations held its 16th meeting in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.
The meeting was attended by Chiefs of Defense Staff (CDSs) and Chiefs of Police from Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Sierra Leone and Federal Government Somalia which are troop contributing countries for the AMISOM.

The joint 16th Meeting of the AMISOM Military Operations Coordination Committee (MOCC) and the African Union Police Strategic Support Group (PSSG) was recently concluded in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.
In attendance were Chiefs of Defense Staff (CDSs) and Chiefs of Police from Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Sierra Leone and Federal Government Somalia; this are the countries that have contributed troops to the peacekeeping mission in Somalia.
Representative from the key partners in the war against Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen were also present including; European Union, IGAD, United Kingdom, United States and the United Nations.
Top on the agenda was the achievements of the mission to Somalia where it was noted that the troops had gained significant ground in Somalia and there was steady and gradual degrading of the al Shabaab capabilities and operation ability.
Some of the recommendations given to enhance the effectiveness of AMISOM were the adherence to the chain of command to allow for accountability and increased mobility which in the recent past has received boost from aerial support promised by Uganda.
Following the recent attacks on the troops’ bases, the need for force protection was raised to ensure that the military and support bases were well protected to prevent any loss of peacekeepers lives to the militants.
Troops and police contributing countries were lauded for the efforts they are putting to revive and support the Federal Government of Somalia in achieving a political process that will be sustainable after the militants were defeated.
The international actors present were urged to enhance and continuously support the Somali National Army (SNA) and Somali Police Force (SPF) especially with skills and finances in readiness to take over once the mission is over. In the recent weeks the SNA and SPF participation in the operations against al Shabaab has increased showing their increased competence and capability in maintaining peace and security in Somalia.
