Kenya’s Counter-Terrorism joint taskforce issued a statement Monday (11/1/2015) reporting the busting of an Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia, Harakat Shabaab Mujahideen in Wajir area or Wajir County NEP Kenya.
(Wajir County is a county in the former North Eastern Province of Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Wajir. The county has a population of 661,941 and an area of 55,840.6 km²)
Counter Terrorism police recovered 2 AK-47 assault riffles and 100 rounds of ammunition (7.62mm *39 and 5 Magazines for AK-47 rifles, 2 Browning pistols with 37 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 3 magazines for pistols.
The CT-Ops unit also recovered 2 detonators for IEDs and 2 live grenades from the safe-house in Wajir.
The success in the joint counter-terrorism operations have managed to crackdown on the key cells in Kenya further degrading the terror group.
