EVENT SUMMARY
Friday 26th February 2016 evening, Al-Shabaab gunmen forced their way in a popular Somali Youth Hotel known as SYL Hotel in Somali’s capital Mogadishu.
SVBIED rammed into the first security check point near the hotel triggering a large explosion. Then Al-Shabaab gunmen followed their way past hotel guards exchanging gunfire with security guards at the next barrier.
The militant raid left 12 people killed before government security forces arrived and ended the siege.
45 minutes later a second bomb exploded targeting the same hotel (SYL) near a public garden. The blast claimed the lives of several civilians whom included women and children. The death toll from the twin blast has hit 30 with 21 people wounded in the blast taken to hospitals for treatment.
Somali is faced by Al-Shabaab militancy who hide behind religion to commit atrocities. Somali people called to realize Al-Shabaab militants are not Somali or Muslims but criminals killing in the name of Islam.
Residents urged to share information/intelligence to security forces in order to defeat this menace threatening peace, security and development of people of Somalia.

Al Shabaab is focusing on denying any possibility of a credible election in July 2016. Everything it has been doing since the beginning of January is all about showing that AMISOM has failed and the FGS in Mogadishu governs nothing! Expect the frequency and ferocity of attacks to increase exponentially.
