10 Soldiers from the Somali National army have been killed and 20 others seriously wounded after a “vehicle bound improvised explosive device” VBIED was detonated at their base at the port city of Kismayu, South Somalia.
Military Intelligence sources confirm the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia, Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen movement carried out the VBIED attack an SNA Camp in Kismayu.
The suicide attack was carried out by a popular SNA soldier. The vehicle, a Toyota Noah van was laced with explosives. The soldier drove into the camp and detonated the VBIED.
The damage assessments confirmed 20 serious injuries and 10 fatalities. Army operations will be mounted to preempt possible attacks by sleeper cells in the area.
Kenya Defense Forces captured the port from the terror group and have a standby force bases in the city. There are no causalities on the Kenyan side.
The Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia, Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen movement, has suffered strings of defeat in Somalia throughout the months of July and August 2015.
The militant group is weakened and lost its core operating bases. Economically and militarily, the Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen terror movement is weak and critically divided.
