MOGADISHU: Wednesday 7th October 2015, Mogadishu was received in rather sad news when unidentified gunmen shot dead a nephew of the Somali President.
Liban Osman Ilmi was shot dead together with his friend who was a doctor in a drive-by shooting in Mogadishu’s Wadajir district.
According to security officials, the militants believed to be linked to Al Shabaab militants have employed similar attacks in the past. In the past few months the Al Qaeda affiliated Al Shabaab militants in Somalia have stepped up attacks against the government officials and African Union forces.
However, after orchestrating the attack, the assailants escape from the scene. Security forces have since launched an intensive manhunt aimed at apprehending the attackers.
The two men were heading to hospital where his friend doctor was working when their car was sprayed with bullets by attackers. Recently Mr. Ilmi’s father died in a hospital in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

The militants who are facing huge blows from SNA and AMISOM forces in intensified efforts to debase them from towns and villages still under control are however changing their military tactics by concentrating on guerrilla attacks in Somalia rather than defending their strongholds.
Recently, Somalia Prime Minister Omar Sharmarke vowed his government is determined to battle alongside allied forces and push militants elements out of the strongholds still under their control.
