Special Police Unit Formed to Combat M-pesa Robbers in Likoni, Mombasa

A special police unit has been formed to deal with M-pesa robbery menace in Likoni Mombasa.

The special team will track down the suspected criminals reportedly involved in M-pesa robbery activities and killing of the business owners.

The team of armed officers disguised as civilians will be conducting patrols on foot night hours in the demarcated routes and residential areas preferred by the criminals.

Likoni District Criminal Investigation officer- DCIO David Siele confirmed the formation of the special unit saying it will be tasked in bringing to an end a spate of criminal activities as witnessed last month.

Police already have identified a three-man gang using unregistered motorcycle saying they are behind a number of robberies mainly targeting M-pesa businesses.

Intelligence (HUMINT) indicates the suspects are active between 5pm and 10 pm mostly on weekends, starting from Thursday.

Other criminal gangs in Mombasa include Wakali Wao and Wakali Kwanza which are being hunted by police.
