Somalia Newly Appointed Army Chief Escapes Car Bomb Attack; At least 15 Civilians Killed

The newly appointed Somalia Nation Army (SNA) Chief on Sunday 9/4/2017 escaped a car bomb attack that ripped a minivan killing at least 15 civilians.

The new army chief, General Mohamed Ahmed Jimale survived a car bomb attack in Mogadishu that claimed the lives of Somali people who were ferrying in a mini transport van.

The SNA General was travelling in a convoy with other military officials when the blast hit near the Ministry of Defence after his swearing in ceremony.

The blast ripped through a bus ferrying civilians after missing the General’s convoy.

Al-Shabaab, the Al-Qaeda linked militant group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attacks come barely a week after Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed declared war on the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab. The President issued an amnesty period of 60 days for the terrorists to surrender to the government.

Separately KDF battling the terrorist group under AMISOM, killed top Al-Shabaab commanders and a foiled a would be attack on SNA encampment in Kuday.
