MAHADAY Somalia, March 11, 2016

A fierce fighting erupted between SNA forces and Al-Shabaab fighters on Thursday at the outskirts of Middle Shabelle regional district of Mahaday.

The fight erupted after SNA raided Al-Shabaab militant’s base at Meertuugo village located some 35kilometers east of Mahaday town as part of militant cleanup operation.

SNA military commander in the area Colonel Ali Abdisalam said the government forces raided an Al-Shabaab base killing unspecified number of fighters. The army destroyed the base and recovered assortment of weapons. During the raid one SNA soldier sustained injuries.

Meertuugo village still remains one of the militant’s stronghold in Middle Shabelle region.
