11th December 2015, latest military reports from Somalia reveal that government troops supported by African Union peacekeepers (AMISOM) clashed with Al Shabaab militants in south of Somali’s Bay region.
Initial report show that SNA and AMISOM forces launched heavy artillery on Al Shabaab’s military and logistic bases killing at least six militants.
The exact report on the casualty is yet to be released but the raids inflicted heavy losses to the Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.
SNA and AMISOM on a well planned operation, launched an attack on bases manned by Al Shabaab militants in Warbow locality, some 50 kilometers away from Diinsoor town located in southwestern of Somalia.
Addressing the Somalia local media about the clash, Mohamed Ibrahim Nur,the Diinsoor district commissioner confirmed that at least six Al Shabaab militants were killed during the raid on their bases.
The commissioner also added that the coalition forces seized several weapons from the militant’s bases including several AK-47 rifles.
Warbow area which is in the Bay region is an area under the control of SNA and AMISOM forces after militants withdrew some months ago but they still persist from their hideout bases and sporadically conducts surprise guerrilla attacks on government and allied forces.
Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen movement in Somalia continues to suffer heavy losses under the coalition forces.
The militants who have been dislodged from several areas that have been under their control still remain a huge threat to Somalia and to the neighbouring countries especially Kenya that has contributed KDF troops under AMISOM.
