Puntland Forces Carry Out Security Sweep in Northern Galkayo

Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that security sweep in northern Galkayo of cental Somalia was successful after Puntland forces conducted a major operation targeting Al-Shabaab elements.

Reports indicate that the security sweep was conducted at Garsoor and Israac villages in the Puntland-administered areas. According to security chiefs, the operation is aimed at scaling-up the security to avert and preempt terror attacks.

In the past few months, Galkayo has been at the center of clashes and raids between security forces and the Islamist militants, a situation that has forced hundreds of families vacate their homes.
