KISAUNI Mombasa, March 17, 2016

One member of Wakali Kwanza criminal gang has been shot dead in Kisauni Mombasa County while seven others have been arrested.

According to Mombasa county police boss, Francis Wanjohi, residents of Kisauni tip-off the on Wednesday night, police responded killing one gang member and apprehending seven others.

There has been public outcry in the area complaining of rampant attacks by the notorious criminal gang on motorists and stealing from the residents.

Police will interrogate the seven to give leads on the group’s operations in the area. Investigations will also help nab those who managed to escape, Mombasa county police boss added.

The crackdown on the criminal gang comes after the Mombasa county commissioner Nelson Marwa set up a multi-agency security team to crumble down the gang that uses crude weapons to attack members of the public.

Marwa said the team will intensify crackdown operations on all outlawed criminals,  be it organized criminal gangs or terror-related groups in Mombasa.
