AMISOM’s outgoing Deputy Force Commander Maj. Gen James Nakibus Lakara who has finished his tour of duty in Somalia praised AMISOM troops fighting Al-Shabaab terrorist in Somalia.
Referencing his words, Maj. Gen Lakara said the situation in Somalia is a very complex mission and downplayed it as not peacekeeping but instead said it’s a peace enforcement.
Maj. Gen Lakara said the troops under AMISOM are fighting a war. The general further noted that AMISOM was deployed to a non-permissive environment in terms of UN standards, for peacekeeping, to fight militants whose objective is to oust the Federal government of Somalia, making the mission very challenging.
Maj. Gen Lakara, the outgoing Deputy Force Commander was in charge Support and Logistics, for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Gen. Lakara will jet in on Monday and will head straight to Jinja, his new station of duty after he was appointed the commandant of Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre (URDCC).
