Kenyan President Invited to Farmajo’s Inauguration

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta received a message from Somalia’s President-elect Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo urging him to attend his inauguration ceremony.

Farmajo inauguration ceremony will take place in Somali’s capital, Mogadishu next week.

According to Somalia state-run Radio Mogadishu, the message was conveyed by Somali Minister Abdisalam Omar Hadliye, when President Kenyatta received him in the State House in Nairobi on Thursday 16/2/2017.

Somalia Embassy in Kenya confirmed of the invitation and acceptance by President Kenyatta to attend the inauguration ceremony, as cited by Radio Mogadishu.

President  Kenyatta on his part and behalf of Kenyans commended Somalia for successfully holding a peaceful presidential election, saying it was proof that the Horn of Africa country was heading in the right direction.

Security to be heightened in all corners of the capital Mogadishu ahead of the ceremony after Al-Shabaab reportedly fired mortar shelling near Presidential palace on Thursday as outgoing president Sheik Mohamoud handed over his responsibilities to president elect Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo.
