Kenya-Somali Maritime Border Dispute Case Kicks Off at ICJ

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) heard the 1st hearing of the maritime border dispute between Kenya and Somalia on 19th of September and throughout this week.

Somalia has hired international lawyers to defend its case. Somalia foreign ministry argues its defending its legal borders against Kenya.Abdi Hassan of the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs argues that Kenya threatens Somali maritime borders, a reason why Mogadishu went to court.

Kenyan Attorney General Githu Muigai has assembled an international team of lawyers and experts to defend Kenya in the border dispute at The International Court of Justice (ICJ).

However President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya is expected to meet the Somali president in New York in the presence of United Nations General Assembly to find a diplomatic solution to the maritime border dispute.
