Kenya Security Forces Kill One Al-Shabaab Militant, Arrest 5 in Wajir County NEP

One Suspected Al-Shabaab militant was shot dead by Kenya Security forces and 5 others arrested for planting improvised explosive device (IED) at a remote road in Wajir County of North Eastern Kenya.

The Intelligence-led operation preempted a large scale -mass casualties’ terrorist attack targeting soft target in the north-eastern part of Kenya.

The Al Qaeda- linked Al-Shabaab Islamist militants were busted distributing improvised explosive devices at a remote road in Wajir County.

The captured terrorists are being interrogated by the Counter-terrorism police officers to establish the extent of the entire network. The terror operatives are part of a group behind recent attacks targeting security agents in the area.

At least 40 police officers and civilians were killed in mostly Improvised Explosive Device attacks in the three counties that border Somalia.

The recent Improvise Explosive Devices (IED) attacks in parts of Garissa and Mandera are seen as desperate attempts by Somali based Al-Shabaab militants to stay relevant after being restricted in major towns.

Al Shabaab militants according to police are dispatching operatives into parts of the north-eastern region to lay IEDs along routes used by Kenya security patrols in an effort to frustrate security operations at the border areas.

Since 2007 Al-Shabaab has fought to overthrow successive internationally-backed governments in Mogadishu but only began attacking Kenya in 2011 after Nairobi ordered its troops into Somalia to fight the militants.
