Friday 21st April 2017 at around 1.00 am, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) operating under the mandate of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) successfully laid siege on Al-Shabaab training and logistics camp located about 9 kilometers north of Sarira, Badhaadhe region of Lower Jubba, Somalia.
The intelligence led military operation was carried out after KDF surveillance assets sighted Al-Shabaab terrorist concentration in the location. KDF-army troops supported by mortar and artillery shelling managed to neutralize the camp after about an hour of intense fire fight.
Following the operation, the initial BDA indicate that 52 Al-Shabaab terrorists were killed while a number fled with injuries.
Following weapons and items recovered from the raid include; seven AK 47 rifles, one PKM gun, two phones, 104 rounds of ammunition, 3 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), assorted IED making materials and food supplies.
KDF has conducted several successful raids against the transnational ragtag militants. Barely a month, in Badhaadhe KDF killed 31 terrorists, 2 terrorists commanders killed in Kuday and 15 militants killed in Gedo region of Somalia.
