KDF Airstrikes Destroy An Al-Shabaab Rays-Qode Base in Gedo, Somalia

HelicopterGEDO Somalia, March 13, 2016

Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that Kenyan troops have launched fresh bombardments striking an Al-Shabaab base in the country’s south-western Gedo region.

According to Col Mohamed Hassan, a senior military commander in Gedo region, Kenyan warplanes pounded Rays-Qode base targeting high value Al-Shabaab figures commanding the militants in the strategic town of Garbaharey.

Mr. Hassan said KDF airstrikes  left several Al-Shabaab combatants killed and their camp completely destroyed.

Since January 15 El-Adde attack on AMISOM’s KDF camp, the Kenyan troops have carried series of successful bombing on Al-Shabaab bases in southern Somalia.

The Al Qaeda branch in Somalia remains persistent and continues to wage attacks on key government installations, targeting SNA and AMISOM troops. Out of desperation to remain relevant, the jihadist group has conducted attacks in restaurants and on a popular beach in Mogadishu killing innocent Somali civilans.

The militant group on the other hand has suffered huge losses from Somali government forces and AMISOM who continues to destroy their logistical camps almost every week.
