Following Boko Haram Steps, Al-Shabaab Threatens Educators Backing “Western Curricula” in Somalia

Al-Shabaab like Nigeria’s Boko Haram is threatening what is calling “Western Curricula“ being taught in Somalia.

Boko Haram, an insurgent allied to the Islamic State has been against education in Nigeria terming it as an ‘apostate slavery’

In Somalia, the spokesman for the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Harakat Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement (HSM) threatened educators backing what he called “Western curricula” in Somalia, saying those supporting their teachings deviate them from Muslims and Islam ideology and makes them, Al-Shabaab “hostile enemy”.

Early this month the Islamist group introduced a new curriculum for primary and secondary schools in places under their control.
The launching ceremony attended by Al-Shabaab’s spokesperson Ali Dheere took place in Saakow Middle Juba.
The terrorist group says the new curriculum intends to replace foreign elements in the curriculum mostly used across Somalia.
In the new curriculum, English is excluded and replaced by Arabic.
