Egyptian army launched a major campaign targeting terrorist elements in several areas in the restive Sinai.
According to the Army spokesman, the operation launched on Sunday has registered success over the militants with 19 militants killed in 3rd day of military operations in north Sinai.
In an official statement, the army spokesman said the campaign aimed at wiping out the militants in the troubled area includes operations by the Special Forces units, the second and third field armies.
The police are also involved in the anti-terror raids against terrorist elements and outlaws in the vicinity of villages, cities and residential areas in the restive North and Central Sinai, the spokesman added.
The campaign will include a review of all security arrangements in the areas, with security forces “adhering to the rules of engagement to ensure the safety of civilians who may be used as human shields by militants,” the statement added.
The spokesman stressed that the anti-terror campaign is bolstered by ongoing airstrikes against militant positions where security operations are taking place.
This is the second army’s comprehensive anti-terror campaign since “Operation Martyr’s Right” was first launched in September 2015 to wipe out militants linked with ISIS operating in the restive peninsula.
