According a brief by Pentagon, 83 oil tankers used by Daesh terrorists were completely destroyed in a U.S.-led coalition airstrike on Sunday evening in eastern Syria.
According toPentagon spokesman Matthew Allen, the air sorties were conducted by multiple coalition aircraft in on operation designed to crumble Daesh economically.
Daesh which benefits from oil smuggling operations suffered huge economic dent as the capacity to fund their operations was degraded in the airstrikes.
The U.S.-led coalition in “Operation Tidal Wave II” named after World War II is targeted at bombing oil refineries belonging to the Daesh. The operation is aimed at completely running down Daesh oil infrastructure in successive raids.
Last year (2015) coalition warplanes bombardments struck and razed about 400 Daesh tankers lineup in a desert to be filled with smuggled oil.
U.S. and some of its allies have been carrying out airstrikes against alleged Daesh targets inside Syria and Iraq since 2014.
