In barely two weeks counter-terrorism operations and joint task force collaborations has seen eight suspected Al Shabaab operatives being arrested in Mandera on Tuesday 5th January 2016.
Northeastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh confirmed of the arrests. The ongoing police operations nabbed the suspected militants between Kotulo and Lafey locality.
The suspects held in El-Wak will undergo intensive interrogation for more leads.
Saleh brief to local media and journalist revealed that the suspects were in Kenya illegally and were nabbed at their hideouts in the intensified hunt down operations.
Terrorist attacks and ambush have been witnessed along the gruesome Mandera-Wajir road.
“The heavy operation is yielding fruits. We strongly believe these individuals have been behind attacks that have occurred along the road,” was quoted saying.
The operation that is expected to continue in the next two weeks has so far been successful. The nabbed suspects have been very cooperative with security agents as they have shared valuable intelligence on the militant’s hideouts.
According to Saleh, some of the suspects had confessed to being involved in some of the attacks.
Some of them are planners and others ringleaders and their shared intelligence will go a long way in threat preemption and pursuing Al Shabaab militants posing threat in Kenya’s NEP.
