Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu has said that the country has conducted more than 68,000 counter-terrorism operations over the last year and 515 terror attacks have been averted. The operations have also led to the arrest of 30,167 suspects who are in jail awaiting trials for various terror-related crimes. Additionally, the minister said that at least 2200 terrorists were killed during the same period.
Soylu said the 68,464 anti-terror operations targeted the PKK, Daesh, the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) and far-left terror groups such as the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C).
In the fight against terror outfits, Turkey has resulted in using armed drones to conduct strikes especially against the PKK militants who hide out in havens to avid casualties. The ministers also highlighted other security precautions erected by the Turkish government to ensure that they curd the illegal entry and spillover of ISIL militants from Syria which includes a concrete wall along the border they share with her.
