AMISOM’s Ethiopian Forces And Somali National Army Recapture Villages In Hiiraan Region

The Ethiopian contingent of AMISOM in collaboration with the Somali National Army has liberated several villages Hiiraan region from al Shabaab. SNA commander in Hiiraan region, Gen. Tawane Ahmed Gurey who spoke to the reporters in the town of Beletwein said that AMISOM troops and SNA successfully took over areas between Beletwein, Maxaas, and Matabaan.

Gen Tawane said that “Security operations started between Beledweyne, Mahaas and Mataan towns, mountainous roads where the enemy attempted to block the roads between these towns, bringing hardship upon the people and taxing them. We started the operation yesterday. The fight is going on, and we have captured several locations from them like Inaad, Eelow, Afar Irdood.

The operation conducted is aimed at securing the roads that have been blocked by al Shabaab fighters in the region an operation that has recorded dozens of casualties in the jihadists side.
