July 14, 2016, AMISOM-Burundi’s contingent has deployed a new commander to take over the command of Burundi troops who are responsible for sector 5 which covers the Middle Shabelle region.

 Brig. General Venuste Nduwayo assumed office taking over from Colonel Venant Bibonimana, who has completed a year’s tour of duty in Somalia.

Brig. General Venuste Nduwayo is the 9th contingent commander from Burundi to be deployed since the inception of the mission.

Gen. Nduwayo took time to thank his predecessor Col. Bibonimana for a job well done, that saw more territory secured in his sector of responsibility.

He also applauded the Burundian troops for their commitment and contributions to the restoration of peace and stability in Somalia and pledged to build on gains already made.
