Al-Shabaab Attempted Raids on AU Army FOB Repulsed near Somali Capital

Heavily armed Al-Shabaab terrorists Tuesday evening attempted to breach in a military Forward Operating Base (FOB) manned by AU forces in Arba’ow area.

The Al-Qaeda linked group has been using one tactic in their attacks on military bases in Somalia where SVBIED firstly are used to ram at the entrance then followed by foot soldiers.

This time, the base scouts about 500 metres from the base spotted the fighters coming and communicated to their colleagues.

Heavy gun fire ensued with corresponding reports from locals saying mortar and heavy gun fire could be heard as the terrorists attempted to storm the AMISOM-FOB area around Elasha Biyaha, about 18 kilometers Southwest of Mogadishu.

AMISOM forces repulsed the attack, and warded off Al-Shabaab fighters from the site. Undisclosed number of terrorists were neutralized in the raids.
