29th January 2016, Al-Qassam Brigades has announced death of seven of its fighters in Gaza tunnel accident.

The al-Qassam Brigades which is an armed wing of Palestinian group Hamas announced on Thursday 28th January 2016 that it had lost seven fighters after a tunnel on the Gaza-Israel border collapsed on them due to the heavy rains.

In a statement, the Ezzeddin al-Qassam Brigades said the members died while working in an underground tunnel.

After the tunnel collapsed, al-Qassam announced it had lost communication with what it called an “elite unit,” while it members were in the tunnel.

The Brigades identified the killed fighters as Ghazwan Khamis Ash-Shobaki, 25, Waseem Mohammad Hassouna, 19, Nidal Majdi Odah, 24, Mahmoud Talal Bassal, 25, Jaafar Ala’ Hamada, 23, Thabet Abdullah Ar-Rifi, 25, and Ezzeddin Omar Qassem, 21; all from Gaza City.
