More than 1000 people have been killed in a week-long war between Alassane Ouattara and Bgagbo forces.
Calls for Laurent Bgagbo to step down by the US and some members of the African Union have fell to deaf ears.
Ouattara and Bgagbo are fighting after the flawed results of a presidential runoff favored each other without any verifiable government agency legitimizing either result.
French takeover over the Ivory Coast airport is indicative of French more active role in military issues and conflicts in Africa.
Bgagbo forces have already taken the national broadcasting station and repulsed Quattara forces.
