Apache Corp will start drilling a well at the Mbawa prospect on Kenya’s block L8 in the Indian Ocean, the company has confirmed.

The Mbawa oil farm has tested positive for oil after Apache Corp’s preliminary tests on the geological structure, and upper formation of the farm.

Apache Corp announced on Friday it will sink the well in Kenya, wherein the US explorer Apache Corp will before the end of the third quarter of 2012 start to drill an offshore well off the Indian Ocean.

This will be the second most watched exploratory activity in Kenya after Tullow’s discovery in the Northern region of Kenya at a farm called Ngamia-1.

Kenya has increased its efforts to explore and discover oil through leasing of more farms to oil explorers and warding exploration licenses to new and credible explorers such as Total and Eni.
