US Warns Pakistani on Militant Safe Havens, Patience LostJune 7 | Posted by David James | Geopolitik
The United States has warned Pakistani over the numerous safe havens it provides militants allied to the Taliban group, intelligence shows.
US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta in Kabul Thursday said the US is weary of Pakistan support to Afghanistan militants.
Panetta insists the US is reaching the limits of patience with its long time ally on war on terror, Pakistani whose involvement in destabilizing US led NATO efforts to pacify Afghanistan has been confirmed.
CIA has continued gathering intelligence on Pakistani support to militancy in Afghanistan and various scenarios prove Pakistani willing provides safe havens for Taliban and its affiliates.
The warning by US is very serious; could signal the end of the intelligence and military cooperation between the two countries. It also points to a new post-Afghanistan conflict zone with Pakistani regions where militants have havens being a target of US-NATO airstrikes.
The US defense ministry recent effort to strengthen ties with India, an emerging global economy and military power signals a shift on US security policy on Asia. India’s success in developing long-range missiles capable of hitting mainland China and its longstanding border issues with Pakistani makes it a strategic security partner with US.
This scenario might be playing out leading to the exit of Pakistani as the Asian key military ally of the US with India taking over due to its military capability. In this view, India could provide logistical and reliable intelligence support to US to help achieve desired security objectives including Afghanistan.
If this policy is adopted, China and Pakistani might strengthen their ties too to counter the new threat posed by India and US. There is a high possibility the Pakistani-US relations are dying slowly and specific targets in Pakistani identified as hideouts of militants bent on terrorism and destabilizing Afghanistan bombed by US drones.
In his briefing, Panetta warned that the US would not allow any militant to attack US forces in refenrence to Pakistani based militants. Currently the cooperation between the two countries is low-level with two US military trainers back in North-Western Pakistani Peshwar area to re-establish US military presence in Pakistani.
