Somali security forces have recaptured several villages in southern Somalia from the al Shabaab after a successful operation in the Lower Shabelle area. The captured villages include Mukay Dumis, Digta Gosarow and Idow Gudow and were recaptured after the al Shabaab fled when they caught wind of rejuvenated government troops approaching their position.
While the al Shabaab still controls swaths in the region thee appears to be a mass exodus by the militants from the area as they fear the rejuvenated efforts by both the states and federal forces in eradicating the terrorists. Intelligence reports indicate that the militants have been retreating from the villages as they are afraid that the proposal to integrate the security forces will mean their end.
Somalia’s president, Mohamed Farmaajo is seeking to integrate the federal and state security force as well as increase support from neighbouring countries pledged to avenge the Oct. 14 truck bombing, which killed over 350 lives.
