3 Al-Shabaab Militants Killed in an Attempted SNA Base Attack near Qoryoley, Lower Shabelle

At least three Al-Shabaab militants were killed over the past weekend in an attempted SNA base attack near Qoryoley district in Lower Shabelle region.

According to Qoryoley district officials, SNA troops repulsed Al-Shabaab militants who attempted to storm SNA military base at Jazeera locality, about 5 kilometers east of the town on Saturday afternoon.

The militants attempted to attack a base manned by Somali National Army leading a fierce gun battle that lasted for several hours.

Overwhelmed, Al-Shabaab militants flee with three of their fighters being killed in the gun battle.

Confirming about the incident, the district Police commissioner of Qoryoley condemned the Al-Shabaab attack on the army base while at the same time commended forces for keeping the militants at bay.

He also confirmed of the three Al-Shabaab militant being killed and seizing of weapons including AK 47 rifles and RPGs.

Qoryoley is an agricultural-rich town in Lower Shabelle somalia, about 120 kilometers south-west of Mogadishu.  The key town was recaptured by Somali and African Union forces back in 2014, following a joint military offensive against the militants.
