21 Al-Shabaab Terminated, 3 Army Troops KIA Outside Bursar Somalia After IED Incident

In the mid-morning of 15th July 2016, approximately 21 terrorists were terminated and their hardware destroyed while 3 Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) troops serving under African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) were killed in  action (KIA) after their vehicle encountered a terrorists Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and got destroyed during a regular troop patrol exercise outside the area between El-Wak and Bursar towns in Somoalia.

Troops destroyed a vehicle mounted with a Dushka Machine gun and recovered weapons from the terrorists from the Al-Qaeda affiliated group, Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen Movement (HSM) in Somalia.

Military intelligence reports confirmed the incident citing it as an operational harzard when patroling geographically and socially hostile regions. Insurgents may often conduct attacks against convectional armies conducting counter insurgency operations (COIN) when they have tactical advantage.
