2 Dead, 15 Injured In Nightly Grenade Attack On Minority-Muslim Mosque In Beldweyne

April 1, 2016:  A mosque in Beldweyne town was the target of a bomb attack during the Isha prayers. The overnight bomb attack is reported to have killed two people and injured at least 15 others.

The target mosque is run by the minority Takfiri Muslim Community in Howlwadag village in the west of Beldweyne.

According to police reports the attack was conducted using a grenade that was hauled at the worshippers during the prayers. Suspicion solely lies on the al Qaeda affiliated al Shabaab despite no one coming forward to claim responsibility for the attack.

Al Shabaab militants in the recent days have resulted to uncoordinated and guerilla like attacks on civilians as they seek to re-establish their diminishing relevance attributed by bolstered counter-offensive operations against them in central and southern Somalia as well as in Puntland.
